Hi I’m Will and today I will be taking about ownership of media companies using 20th Century Fox as an example. They are two types of companies a conglomerate [made up of smaller companies these are called subsidiaries] and Independent [these companies are not owned by any other company, functions and makes products on their own]
20th Century Fox is a subsidiary of 21 Century [a subsidiaries are smaller companies what are owned by a larger company]. Witch is a cross media company. [The company produces more than one media product by owing companies what produce different media.] Rupert Murdoch owns 21st Century Fox.
On of the ways that they can promote is by using Synergy [synergy when conglomerate products are promoted by other parts of the group]. 20th Century Fox synergy to promote their films. For Example Avatar would have had frequent adverts on Fox TV. Fox are a vertically integrated company, which they can; produce, distributed and have the resources for consumption. They’re horizontal integrated as they have bought up other companies who produce the same type of media.
20th Century Fox produce films. However, this means that 20th Century Fox only specialize in TV and Film Production. They have produced many successful products:
We know that are successful because they have produced a number of box office hits and they have also has become a household name. 20th Century Fox operate to the same and better efficiency as they big six media companies. They are very successful intentionally and nationally as they hit the top of the box office in lots of countries.
20th Century Fox main comports are Walt Disney Studios, Columbia Studios, Wanner Brothers and Metro-Gold Mayer. As they produce they are in the Major Six for producing and distribution in the media industry. This means that the Major Six are in the same league as 20th Century Fox for revenue and productions. They stand out by the branding and there advertisement because of News Corporations is bigger then most other conglomerates.
